42 Challenge: List

This is a slightly more detailed version of my list for the challenge.  Here, the listings are in alphabetical order instead of chronological.

AI: Artificial Intelligence (2001; film)
Directed by Steven Spielberg; written by Brian Aldiss, Ian Watson, Steven Spielberg; starring Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, William Hurt
What a creepy movie.  I would only recommend this to anyone interested in experiencing Stanley Kubrick’s or Steven Spielberg’s entire body of work; otherwise, it’s probably a waste of time.  But the story by Brian Aldiss sounds interesting.  And I absolutely loved the teddy bear.

The Andromeda Strain (2008; TV, 2-part mini series) [more about this]

Star Trek: First Contact (1996, film)
Directed by Jonathan Frakes; written by Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, Ronald D. Moore; starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Alfre Woodard, James Cromwell, Alice Krige, Robert Picardo
First outing on the big screen for the STNG crew, and they did themselves proud.  I thoroughly enjoyed this one, but if you’re not a bona fide Star Trek junkie, you might be a little lost here – probably not the best place to start your exploration of the saga.

 Star Trek: Insurrection (1998, film)

Directed by: Jonathan Frakes; Written by: Rick Berman, Michael Piller
Starring: Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, F. Murray Abraham, Donna Murphy, Anthony Zerbe

This was, I believe, the third feature-length film for the Next Generation crew. This time they head to a mysterious world where “metaphasic radiation” has halted the aging process of the inhabitants, called the Ba’ku.  Picard and company must help save the gentle Ba’ku from a conspiracy to relocate their population and steal their planet’s power. And in the process, the Enterprise crew are affected by the youth-making radiation themselves. Very enjoyable. I think I was more impressed with the earlier Star Trek: First Contact, but this one certainly deserves high marks as well. Scores another A, if not quite an A+.  [More about this one.]
